Gayatri Mantra | ||
"The Gayatri Mantra is a prayer
for the progressive upsurge of intelligence so that Truth may be grasped
by the seeker. Subordinate the mind to the pure intelligence, which is but
a reflection of the God within. Then, you will have the Guru of Gurus as
your guide." ....Sathyasai Baba OM BHUR BHUVAH SUVAH TAT SAVITUR VARENYUM BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHE DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT The Gayatri is divided into three sections: The first section Aum,Bhuh Bhuvah Svah, consists of the Pranava and the Mahavyahrities. Here the chanter contemplates the Glory of Light that illumines the three worlds or the regions of experience. The second section Tat Savitur Varenyum; Bhargo Devasya Dheemahe, picturises the Glory, the Splendour, and the Grace which flows from that Light: The third section Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat, is a prayer for final liberation, through the awakening of the innate intelligence that pervades the Universe as Light: In June 1974, Baba performed the Upanayanam ceremony for about four hundred children at Whitefield and gave a discourse on the Gayatri. He mentioned that the first nine words of the mantra contain a nine fold description of the Ultimate Reality, as follows: 1. Aum : Sound as the basis of Creation, Brahman. 2. Bhuh : The Earth, the Gross 3. Bhuvah: The Atmosphere, the Ether, the Subtle. 4. Svah : Heaven, the region beyond Bhuvah, the Casual. 5. Tat : Stands for That. The ultimate Reality is simply reffered to as That because it defies description through speech or language. 6. Savitur: Stands for Divine Savitri, equated with the vivifying power contained within the Sun 7. Varenium: Adore 8. Bhargo : Radiance, Lustre, Illumination. 9. Devasya:Divine radiance or Grace. The remaining line constitutes the prayer: 1. Dheeamahe : We contemplate. 2. Dhi : Stands for Intellect. 3. Nuh Prachodayat : Requesting, Urging, Praying. Baba said that this prayer is directed to the Divine Mother, --"O Divine Mother, our hearts are filled with darkness. Please make this darkness distant from us and promote Illumination within us." ![]() |

The Five Human Values | ||
"The enumeration of human
values as five - Truth, Righteousness,Peace, Love,
and Nonviolence - is not correct. They grow together; they are interdependent,
they are not separable. Dharma is Love in Action; Love thrives on Inner
Peace, on the absence of inner conflicts. How can one have Peace when he
reveals in violence of speech and action?" "Human values are born with man. They are not got from outside. Man in his ignorance is not aware of these Values. When man sheds his ignorance, he will experience his divine nature." "Just as the rays of the sun absorb water from the sea, gather them into clouds, and drop them as rain on earth so that they may flow as rivers back into the sea, likewise, the senses of man contact the world and collect experiences, out of which the sacred and sustaining ones are selected, stored, and utilized by the mind as values, as instruments for uplifting the individual and society. (Those Values) are Truth(Sathya), Right Action(Dharma), Peace(Shanti), Nonviolence(Ahimsa), and Love(Prema). For the first four, the last value, Love(Prema), is the life-giving spring. They can be achieved most quickly by Love(Prema)." "The real meaning of Education in Human Values is human values put into practice. What are these human values? People simply utter the names of human values: sathya, dharma, shanti, prema, ahimsa -this comes only from the lips. But, true human values come from birth. Sathya(Truth) is that which must be said. Dharma(Righteousness) is that which has to be practiced Shanti(Peace) is that which has to be experienced Prema(Love) is our true nature. Ahimsa(Nonviolence) is staying away from violence." "Truth,Right Action(dharma), Peace, and Love are the four pillars of the ancient wisdom, the eternal path(sanathana dharma)." "Practice anyone of the human values. Prema(Love) is the basis for all the Values. Action with love is right conduct. Speak with love it becomes truth. Thinking with love results in peace. Understanding with love leads to Nonviolence. For everything, love is primary." "Sathyam is what I teach. Dharma is what I do. Shanti is what I am. Prema is Myself. Follow any one of the four. You are mine and I am yours." more on human values ![]() |
